California Dreaming

Our trip from Guatemala to California was very OK, at security the guys were checking us through and I pointed at Mike and said in a conspiratory tone "watch out for that one." They laughed and he asked what I'd said. I told him and he got so mad at me, I had to hear about it for five minutes. That laugh was so not worth it!

Delta upgraded us to first class, which was nice, but the air hostess was ruder than any I've had all year in economy, so all that glitters, folks, all that glitters. Maybe she thought I was rich enough not to have my self-esteem hurt by her icky attitude or maybe she realized we were impostors, I'm thinking it's the latter.

Our hosts in California were the directors/founders of Cultural Homestay International, Tom and Lilka Areton. They have a lovely home and a cute dog. On our first night we had a good chat and an even better dinner. We were up early Monday and Tom took us out to see some sights in California, including America's windiest street.
Next, we went to Coit tower and Tom had tons of information about the place! I wish I was that knowledgeable about New York, I haven't even been to the Statue of Liberty yet. I know, I know.
When we first planned this trip to California, I thought it was just a break with free time, but our schedule is packed, so Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon was all the free time I had, and I wanted to make the most of it! I squeezed in a visit with one of my friends that afternoon and stayed overnight with my sister in Hayward! This was the only time I would see her all year, so I was disappointed we wouldn't have more time together, but still happy to see her. The next day I had lunch with her, did some sightseeing with a friend, and headed back to San Anselmo.

We said goodbye to the lovely Aretons (did I mention how gorgeous their garden is??)and headed off with their friend and colleague Jan King, who will be our host for the rest of the trip. We had a really good at dinner that night with Jan and her friends the Cella's, and tomorrow Jan will show us around Sebastapol.
