Early on in Guatemala

On Monday I had breakfast with my host family and my host sister, her name is Sarah and she's from New Hampshire. I'll have two days of Spanish lessons I had a really good time with my Spanish teacher. We sat there and literally just spent a lot of time chatting, but the conversation always ended up going back to food!

My teacher later told me he had been trying to assess my Spanish skills. He said my issue is the tenses, which is true, all the Spanish I learned was during one semester in college and from Peru, so while I can chat, my grammar leaves much to be desired. Here he is!

After class I checked my email and found out the Nepal leg of our trip is canceled. We almost didn't go to Peru due to a lack of availability and had talked about booking things early to avoid that problem in the future, so this was a bit frustrating, but who knows how long they've been booked up. Bummer, I hear it's so gorgeous! Maybe we can work something out...

I hung out at the Rainbow Cafe in the evening and it turns out Ella was right in warning us that streets really do get very quiet by 9pm. I took a cab home and I'm glad I did.

My host family was still up and I had a good time chatting with them. I'm relieved that my first impressions were wrong!
